SCOUTING REPORT
Powers was recruited by Florida to play third base, although he was drafted by the Pirates as a shortstop.  Powers hit for a team high .411 average in his senior season, with 11 extra base hits, including three homers in 73 at-bats.  Powers also posted a 1.51 ERA in 60.1 innings, with an impressive 12.1 K/9 ratio, and a 5.4 K/BB ratio.  Powers was the 52nd best prospect in the state of Florida according to Baseball America.  He will be a tough sign, although if he does sign the Pirates could try to use him as a two way player until he establishes himself at a position.
