SCOUTING REPORT
Weiss was rated the #132 prospect in the draft by Baseball America, and has a commitment to UCLA.  He has a power arm, throwing 90-92, and touching 93 MPH.  His curveball has a sharp downward, two-plane drop, although it often finds the dirt.  He needs to work on his changeup, as it is his weakest pitch.  Weiss struggles to repeat his mechanics, and sometimes throws around or across his body.  Weiss has trouble maintaining his velocity in the later innings, which could make him a reliever or a back of the rotation prospect.  He has the chance to improve to the top two rounds if he goes to UCLA and improves in these areas, which could make him a tough sign for the Pirates.
