WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES |
Herrand has very good stuff but is still very raw and erratic. His fastball can be anywhere from the upper 80s to 96-97. In fact, he apparently has hit 100. He also has a good curve, but he has severe control problems.
2010 Struggled to throw strikes in his debut in the DSL, walking more than he fanned. 2011 Despite the struggles in 2010, the Pirates brought him to the GCL. Unfortunately, he was injured and unable to debut until late July. Once he could pitch he continued struggling with his control. 2012 Herrand allowed only 11 hits in 20 innings, but he just couldn’t throw strikes. Apart from 32 walks, he hit seven and threw a dozen wild pitches. Herrand has a great arm, but his control problems aren’t getting any better. He’ll probably return to the GCL in 2013. |
