Kendall had a strong sophomore season, but had Tommy John surgery, which cut short that season in 2012 and evidently led to a miserable 2013 season. He wasn’t striking out many hitters before the injury in 2012, so there may be some question about his stuff. Kendall signed about three weeks after the draft.
2013 Kendall went to Jamestown and pitched in relief after a one-game tuneup in the GCL. He had good walk and K rates, but he got hit a little hard. For some reason, lefties hit .357 against him, but it’s a very small sample size. He was an extreme flyball pitcher and had a little trouble with HRs, allowing one every six innings. 2014 Kendall opened the season in the West Virginia bullpen and mostly struggled. Left-handed batters again hammered him, with an OPS of 1.136, albeit in just 25 plate appearances. Kendall went on the disabled list in mid-May, though, and didn’t return. Assuming he’s healthy, Kendall will probably return to West Virginia in 2015. |
