The Braves drafted Cunningham in the second round as a player who could hit for average, with good plate discipline and enough speed to play center, and with the potential to develop some power.  He appeared on Baseball America’s top thirty team prospect lists for six straight years, the last of those with the Angels, but he never ranked highly and never took off with the bat.  He’s mostly had good BB:K ratios, but has hit for just decent averages and hasn’t shown much power.  His platoon split has usually been minimal and he’s bolstered his OBPs by getting hit by a lot of pitches.  Cunningham got a little time in the majors and didn’t hit.  He’s spent most of his time in center, but doesn’t have a good arm.

A:  260/341/338, 231 AB, 9 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR, 14 BB, 30 K, 7-11 SB

The Braves sent Cunningham to full season ball for his debut and he hit just decently.  He played mostly in center, but also saw time in right.

R:  182/286/364, 11 AB, 1 3B, 1 BB, 5 K, 1-1 SB
A+:  257/348/353, 334 AB, 12 2B, 4 3B, 4 HR, 33 BB, 47 K, 14-20 SB

Apart from some time lost to a strained right elbow, Cunningham spent the season in high A, where he hit about the same as the previous year.  He played center almost exclusively.

AA:  309/364/403, 466 AB, 23 2B, 6 3B, 3 HR, 38 BB, 51 K, 24-32 SB

Cunningham had his best season, all of it spent in AA.  BA ranked him 12th in the Braves’ system afterward.

AAA:  265/342/333, 427 AB, 13 2B, 5 3B, 2 HR, 41 BB, 62 K, 20-27 SB
MLB:  250/250/250, 8 AB, 3 K

Cunningham started reasonably well in AAA and got several callups, but he struggled in the second half of the season and finished with weak numbers.

AAA:  287/347/406, 470 AB, 28 2B, 2 3B, 8 HR, 35 BB, 79 K, 19-27 SB

The Braves sent Cunningham to AAA for the entire season and he rebounded close to the level he’d reached in 2012.  He continued playing almost exclusively in center.

AAA:  261/325/337, 329 AB, 13 2B, 3 3B, 2 HR, 23 BB, 34 K, 9-13 SB
MLB:  221/280/267, 86 AB, 4 2B, 5 BB, 17 K, 2-3 SB

Cunningham spent most of the season in AAA, but also got several callups.  He seemingly transitioned to fourth outfielder, playing all the outfield positions.  His hitting fell off quite a bit in AAA.  Atlanta removed him from the 40-man roster after the season and the Angels claimed him off waivers.

AAA:  278/378/387, 349 AB, 16 2B, 2 3B, 6 HR, 51 BB, 56 K, 23-28 SB
MLB:  148/179/259, 27 AB, 3 2B, 1 BB, 6 K, 0-1 SB

The Angels outrighted Cunningham to AAA at the beginning of the season, but called him up briefly twice, outrighting him each time.  He became a free agent after the season an signed a minor league deal with St. Louis.

AAA (StL):  270/401/400, 230 AB, 14 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 37 BB, 37 K, 6-8 SB
AAA (LAD):  339/417/468, 62 AB, 6 2B, 1 3B, 6 BB, 13 K, 1-2 SB

Cunningham spent the entire season in AAA.  The Cardinals sent him to the Dodgers for cash in July.  He had his best season at the level.

The Pirates signed Cunningham for 2018 shortly after the 2017 season ended.  He’ll probably replace Danny Ortiz in the role of veteran outfield depth at Indianapolis.
