WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
Troutman is a college senior who pitched as a reliever in his last year for Lander University. He posted a 2.96 ERA in 27.1 innings, with a 30:13 K/BB ratio. He was a catcher earlier in his college career, but switched to pitching full time in his junior year after poor results at the plate the prior year. He throws 90-93 with a slider. Troutman signed quickly.
2019 Troutman pitched in relief at Bristol. Other than a good K rate, he mostly struggled. He had trouble with both right- and left-handed hitters, and he finished the season especially badly, with a 9.31 ERA in August. He had some trouble with gopher balls, allowing better than one every six innings. 2020 2021 The Pirates assigned Troutman to Bradenton in early June. He made 16 relief appearances there and just couldn’t throw strikes. At the end of August the team sent him to the FCL and he continued to have problems in three games there. Troutman hasn’t had a lot of success so far. If he returns, it’ll probably be to Bradenton. |
