WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES |
The Pirates selected Cardona from the Orioles in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft.
2004-09: Hit very little in the VSL for three years, then surprisingly had two very respectable seasons in rookie ball. Went back to struggling at the plate in 2009. Primarily split time between short and second, and is capable defensively. 2010: Figured to be utility infielder at Bradenton, but opened the season starting at second due to Brock Holt being hurt. Did well enough for a dozen games but went out for the season with right shoulder injury. Cardona should be eligible for minor league free agency now and so may not be back. |
