De Aza got into limited action, including three starts.  He had serious control problems, enough so that it’s surprising his ERA wasn’t much higher.

2013
DSL:  0-2-1, 7.20 ERA, 2.20 WHIP, 10.0 IP, 10.8 BB/9, 4.5 K/9

De Aza pitched more sparingly than the year before, as he got hurt in his first start and missed some time.  He continued to have significant control issues.

2014
R:  1-2-0, 7.13 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, 17.2 IP, 5.6 BB/9, 7.1 K/9

Despite his struggles in the DSL, the Pirates brought De Aza to the GCL.  His ERA was still bad, but otherwise he made significant improvements in his walk and K rates.  He pitched strictly in relief.

The Pirates obviously think De Aza has more potential than the results show.  He could be with any of the short season teams in 2015.
