WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
The Pirates signed Brahms as an undrafted free agent after the 2020 draft. He was one of a great many players available for a maximum $20,000 bonus due to the draft being limited to five rounds. Brahms was a starter for four years at Sacramento State, putting up good numbers except for a bit of an off-season in his junior year. He made four starts as a senior before the college season was shut down, posting a 1.14 ERA with no walks and 32 strikeouts in 23.2 IP. He also had K rates in double figures in his sophomore and junior seasons. His command is good and he’s had low walk totals. Based on the most recent available information, which is a little old, Brahms throws a low-90s fastball, an improving change and a breaking ball.
2020 2021 The Pirates sent Brahms to Bradenton in mid-May and he pitched in relief for them. He wasn’t effective, walking a lot of hitters and giving up an opponents’ average of .293. At the end of August, the Pirates moved him down to the FCL and he didn’t do well there, either. If Brahms is still with the organization, he’ll probably fill in somewhere in class A in 2022. |
