SCOUTING REPORT
|
Dotel has been electric the last two years with the Chicago White Sox, posting a 3.55 ERA in 129.1 innings, with an amazing 11.6 K/9, a 2.57 K/BB, and a 1.3 HR/9 ratio. Dotel has always had a problem with the long ball, but has an amazing 11.0 career K/9 ratio, and a low 7.2 H/9 ratio. He will start the season as the closer for the Pirates, giving Joel Hanrahan more time to continue the improvements we saw from him in 2009 after coming over from the Washington Nationals.
Dotel’s last experience as a closer came in 2007 when took over as Kansas City’s closer mid-season. He saved 11 games with three blown saves from the start of June to the end of July, then was traded to Atlanta at the trade deadline, at which point Joakim Soria took over. In 2004, Dotel was the closer for Houston to start the year, saving 14 of 17 chances. He was traded to Oakland that June in a deal that sent Carlos Beltran to the Houston Astros, and Mark Teahen, Mike Wood, and John Buck to the Kansas City Royals. Dotel went 22 for 28 the rest of the season as Oakland’s closer, then went 7 for 11 to start the 2005 season before going down with an injury. |
