WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES |
De Renne bounced around for seven years as an organizational player, mainly as a middle infielder. He generally showed good on-base skills and rarely struck out, so it’s a little surprising he didn’t stick anywhere for long. One factor may have been a lack of speed. After 2006 he spent three years in independent ball, then resurfaced in the Phillies’ organization in 2010. He didn’t play anywhere in 2011. The Pirates signed him as a player/coach.
2000 Split debut season between the NYPL and low A. He played mostly short and some second, with a few games at third and in the outfield. 2001 The Braves jumped De Renne all the way to AA, where he played second and short, the former about three-fourths of the time. He struggled at bat, but at least showed a good eye. 2002 De Renne returned to AA and had a solid season, getting on base at a good rate. He played mainly second and also served as DH some of the time. 2003 Back in AA, De Renne got off to a bad start and the Braves released him. The Yankees picked him up, but he didn’t hit much for them, either. 2004 He caught on with Arizona and played at three levels, mainly in AAA. He did a good job of getting on base while splitting his time between second and short. 2005 Still with the Diamondbacks, De Renne missed some time with an injury, but put up a similar season to 2004 otherwise. He played mainly second. 2006 Moving on to the Red Sox, De Renne played mostly in AA and struggled at the plate. He also appears to have gotten hurt again. He split his time among the three infield positions. 2007 Spent the season with York in the Atlantic League and had a good year, again dividing his time amongst the three infield positions. 2008 De Renne played mainly short for York and had a much weaker season at the plate. 2009 Playing second about two-thirds of the time and short the rest, De Renne had a solid season for York. 2010 Filled in at all four full season levels for the Phillies, playing five different positions. 2011 De Renne figures to take the field only if the Pirates have a sudden shortage of players. |
