WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE
The Royals drafted Broughton as a pitcher, but he lasted only six games with them after getting very poor results.  After the pandemic season, he caught on with Ogden of the Pioneer League.  He pitched a little in his first year there, again with bad results, but as an outfielder he put up big hitting numbers.  He has a good arm, as you’d expect, and also good speed.  The Pirates signed him to a minor league deal for 2023.

2019
R+:  0-0-1, 9.53 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, 5.2 IP, 1.6 BB/9, 7.9 K/9

Broughton got into six games as a reliever with the Royals, obviously with poor results.

2020
DNP

Broughton didn’t play during the pandemic season and Kansas City released him that fall.

2021
IND:  1-2-1, 9.28 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, 21.1 IP, 3.4 BB/9, 6.8 K/9

IND:  405/448/621, 351 AB, 21 2B, 8 3B, 13 HR, 27 BB, 55 K, 13-17 SB

Broughton caught on in the independent Pioneer League.  Pitching again didn’t go well, but he did a lot better at the plate.  The numbers should be viewed with extreme caution, though, as the league batted 310/396/493.  He played mostly in the outfield, but got into five games at third.

2022
IND:  381/437/608, 365 AB, 25 2B, 8 3B, 14 HR, 39 BB, 56 K, 29-37 SB

Back in the Pioneer League, Broughton again put up big numbers.  He also showed his speed on the bases.

The Pirates listed Broughton as a third baseman in reporting the signing.  The hitting numbers look great, but the Pirates signed another Ogden player, Jakob Goldfarb, a year before they signed Broughton, and he put up even bigger numbers at Ogden than Broughton in 2021.  Goldfarb lasted only a month and a half in low A with the Pirates.
