Custodio originally signed with Colorado on July 2, 2018, for $150,000, but the contract was voided when he failed his physical due to a bad bone bruise.  The Pirates signed him during spring training in 2019.  He runs well enough that he could stay in center and he makes good contact, with some power.

DSL:  324/358/448, 210 AB, 8 2B, 3 3B, 4 HR, 10 BB, 18 K, 15-19 SB

Custodio played center the bulk of the time in his debut, but saw some time in the corners.  He had eight outfield assists, so he seems to throw well.  At the plate, he hit for a high average with some power.  He didn’t walk much, but seldom struck out.  He also did well as a base stealer.

DSL:  304/381/464, 56 AB, 4 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 7 BB, 10 K, 5-8 SB

Custodio was in fall instructionals in 2019 and probably should have been in the GCL in 2021, but he got hurt.  He ended up back in the DSL, where he saw only limited playing time late in the season.

R:  345/457/621, 58 AB, 4 2B, 3 3B, 2 HR, 6 BB, 8 K, 1-3 SB
A:  231/286/231, 14 AB, 1 BB, 4 K

Custodio was hurt again when the FCL started play.  He finally was activated at the end of June and got into 21 FCL games before moving up for a few games at Bradenton.  He dominated the rookie league pitching, with good power and a very low K rate.  He played exclusively in the outfield corners.

Custodio so far has shown he can hit.  If he can finally start a season healthy, it wouldn’t be a complete surprise to see him open with Greensboro.  He’ll play the season at age 22 and will be Rule 5 eligible afterward.
