Campos is a small RHP who’s put up some good numbers, especially his K rates. Campos has better stuff than you might think for his size. His fastball sat at 91-93 the one time I saw him pitch.
2008 Pitched briefly and struck out exactly a batter an inning, but allowed a lot of baserunners. 2009 Was the best starter on the Pirates’ DSL affiliate. He fanned a lot of batters and didn’t allow many baserunners. 2010 Campos moved up to the GCL and pitched mainly in relief. He continued to fan over a batter an inning and had decent control, but he got hit harder. He had trouble with left-handed hitters, who batted .333 against him. Right-handed hitters batted only .215. 2011 Opened the season in the State College bullpen and struggled, allowing 11 earned runs in 11 innings. Control was part of the problem. The Pirates moved him down to the GCL and he posted a good WHIP and ERA, but his K rate dropped sharply. Campos seems to be struggling to make progress above the DSL. The Pirates likely will try him at State College again in 2012. |
