TRADED

Carrasco pitched several different roles with the White Sox. He served as a long reliever, pitching two or three innings when a starter was bounced early. He’d close out games in a non-save situation with a four or five run lead. He also pitched middle relief in some close games, and would come on to pitch one or two outs to get out of an inning.  He signed a minor league deal with the Pirates, although he’s a near lock to make the bullpen out of Spring Training.  He will likely assume a long relief role, and serve as the emergency starter if needed.

• Can earn an additional $300,000 in performance bonuses in 2010, based on appearances.
• 2010 performance bonuses based on a points system. Carrasco gets 1 point for every appearance less than two innings, 2 points for every appearance of 2+ innings, and 3 points for every start.  Carrasco earns $25,000 after 50 points, and $25,000 each after 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, and 105 points. • Spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons playing for Fukuoka of Japan, signing a 2 year/$4.3 M deal.  Returned to the majors in 2007 under a minor league contract.
