WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES |
Ibarra initially played JC ball at Rio Hondo College, where he was regarded as the best JC shortstop in California. After transferring to LSU for the 2013 season he played third and that’s the position the Pirates announced when they drafted him. He’s a small player and hasn’t shown any speed on the bases, so it’s possible that his range is limited. He’s been clocked from the mound at 90 mph, so he appears to have the arm for short or third. Despite his size, he’s shown some pop with the bat and has done well at getting on base. Because he has a year left at LSU, it may take above-slot money for the Pirates to sign him. |
