WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES |
Ruiz has gotten mostly good results. The Pirates left him in the summer leagues for four years and used him exclusively in relief, though, so they may see him as more of an organizational pitcher. He throws sidearm and doesn’t throw hard.
2010 Ruiz got into two games after signing. 2011 Ruiz didn’t have good walk and K rates, but opponents hit only .194 against him. 2012 Moving to the DSL, Ruiz got hit a little harder, but his walk and K rates were much better. 2013 Ruiz had a dominant season, although at 22 he was old for the DSL. 2014 Ruiz was no longer eligible for the DSL and the Pirates brought him to the GCL. He pitched only sparingly in relief. His ERA was worse than his other numbers, although his K rate fell through the floor. Ruiz was quite old for the GCL and the small number of innings he threw shows the Pirates aren’t very high on him. If he returns in 2015, he’ll likely be at Bristol. |
