Marquez is a Venezuelan catcher who’s been a backup throughout four years in the Latin American summer leagues.
2010 Marquez saw limited action in his first season. 2011 Marquez played a little more in his second season. 2012 With the Pirates having left the Venezuelan Summer League, Marquez moved to the Dominican, where he drew a lot of walks. 2013 Marquez played only a little in his fourth season. 2014 With his eligibility to play in the DSL expired, the Pirates brought Marquez to camp in 2014. He was the third catcher behind Yoel Gonzalez and Reggie Cerda, and was overmatched at the plate in limited chances. He threw out two of 12 opposing base stealers. If Marquez is still around in 2015, he’ll probably serve as a fill-in catcher at the lower levels. |
