The Pirates drafted Alldred in the 24th round in 2018, though he was just the second left-handed pitcher they selected.  He made great strides on the mound at Cincinnati.  As a freshman he barely pitched and was not successful when he did.  He saw more time as a sophomore, though he walked a lot of batters.  As a junior in 2018, he put things together, posting a 3.95 ERA as a starter, with an 85:29 SO:BB ratio and a .237 BAA in 79.2 innings.  He throws upper-80s, and adds a slider and changeup.  He signed quickly after the draft.

A-:  0-1-1, 1.63 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 27.2 IP, 2.9 BB/9, 9.8 K/9
A:  0-1-0, 3.86 ERA, 2.14 WHIP, 2.1 IP, 3.9 BB/9, 7.7 K/9

Alldred spent most of his debut season pitching out of the Morgantown bullpen.  He put up impressive numbers.  Opponents managed only a 200/270/220 line against him, and that’s including two outings at West Virginia at the end of the season, one of which didn’t go well.  Alldred had only a minimal platoon split.

A:  4-1-3, 4.20 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 60.0 IP, 3.6 BB/9, 9.5 K/9

Alldred pitched in relief for Greensboro all year.  He had a good K rate, but was only moderately effective, allowing opponents to bat 263/346/393.  The league average was 239/316/362.  He had no platoon split.

AA:  4-0-2, 2.18 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 53.1 IP, 3.9 BB/9, 8.3 K/9
AAA:  0-0-1, 0.71 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, 12.2 IP, 5.0 BB/9, 7.1 K/9

Alldred spent most of the year pitching out of the Altoona bullpen.  He had a good season there.  His walk and K rates were decent, and a very low .203 BABIP helped him hold opponents to a .176 average.  The Pirates moved him up to Indianapolis in September and he got into five games there.  He managed to give up a lot of baserunners without much damage thanks to a 100% strand rate.  He had a more conventional split on the season, allowing an OPS of .540 to left-handed batters and .717 to right-handed batters.

Alldred has been a solid pitcher for the Pirates.  He’s eligible for the Rule 5 draft, but it’s hard to see him being selected.
