Lukashevich was the first Belarussian to sign with a major league team. He’s a tall, lean pitcher whom the Pirates consider projectable. He was throwing in the upper 80s in camp in 2011, which is good for a guy who was just 16 at the time. A year later, though, he wasn’t throwing quite as hard. Along with Lithuanian Dovydas Neverauskas, he gives the Pirates two native Russian speakers. Lukashevich didn’t appear in the GCL in 2011, as he was hurt.
2012 The Pirates used Lukashevich sparingly out of the bullpen. He didn’t allow many hits, but his walk and K rates were mediocre. Lukashevich doesn’t have much experience yet and is likely to return to the GCL in 2013. |
