Joel Hanrahan announced on Twitter that he was moving on from the Pittsburgh Pirates and looking for other opportunities. Hanrahan was the pitching coach at Indianapolis this past season. Prior to that he worked at the Alternate Training Site in 2020, Double-A Altoona in 2019, Low-A West Virginia in 2018. He joined the Pirates in 2017, when he was the pitching coach with short-season Bristol, after he retired as a player. Hanrahan also pitched for the Pirates from 2009 until 2012, as part of a seven-year career in the majors.
After 5 years coaching with the Pirates I have decided to move on and look for other opportunities. Thank you to the Pirates for giving my first shot at coaching. I wish all the players, coaches and organization the best. I’m looking forward to a new challenge and opportunity.
