About 13 years ago, I started Pirates Prospects to provide a resource to follow the Pittsburgh Pirates and their farm system, at a time when information on the prospects was sparse. A year later, the first Prospect Guide was published, and that and every book since have been essential to Pirates Prospects growing and providing independent coverage.
Pirates Prospects is now part of Pittsburgh Baseball Network, allowing us to focus on more than just the farm system. This year on PBN we’ve got our latest Prospect Guide for sale, along with a new history book from John Dreker. We’ve also got some Black Friday deals. More information below.
Upcoming Releases
We’ve got two book releases coming up in the next few months, both independently written and produced by the writers at Pirates Prospects and Pittsburgh Baseball Network.
The first book to be released is the first history book by John Dreker, “The 1890 Pittsburgh Alleghenys: The Worst Team in Pittsburgh Pirates History”. The book offers a look at this infamous team in Pirates history, with stories on every player from that year.
All proceeds from the book go to John Dreker, who is invaluable to the efforts at Pirates Prospects, while also still finding time to compile his amazing Pittsburgh Baseball History site here on PBN.
The other book that is currently in the works is The 2022 Guide, which is our annual book release at Pirates Prospects. This year’s Guide will feature the latest updates and prospects reports heading into the 2022 season. It will also continue a deeper look at player development from an individual standpoint, which started in last year’s release.
The 2022 Guide will be released in March 2022. The 1890 Pittsburgh Alleghenys will be released next month. You can pre-order both at the PBN Shop.
Black Friday Sale
The 10th Anniversary Prospect Guide is on sale for just $10. The book is the first of a series that digs deeper into player development from an individual standpoint, while also containing reports on every prospect in the system heading into the 2021 season.

We’ve been producing Prospect Guides for over a decade, providing the best source online for historical scouting reports of the Pirates and their player development system. Every single copy of the older Prospect Guides is available at the PBN Shop in digital form.
