First Pitch: MLB Free Agency Begins Today

MLB free agency begins later today at 5 PM EST.

I don’t expect a mad rush by the Pirates to sign players. I wouldn’t expect that for many teams, considering baseball’s free agency period moves much slower than other leagues.

That said, we’ll get our first good idea of who will be available for the Pirates this afternoon. They have money to spend, and definitely have needs on this team. If I was looking at the best places to upgrade the roster, it would be pitching and outfield help.

This week, we’ll be looking at some of the best free agent options for those positions, along with other positions of need for the Pirates. In fact, it might take more than a week to complete the latter breakdown.

I’ll also be continuing my 2021 Season Recap series here at No Quarter, along with the corresponding prospect series over at Pirates Prospects. Coincidentally, the schedule this week is heavily focused on pitching.

Who do you want the Pirates to target? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
