The Toronto Blue Jays announced that right-handed pitcher Connor Overton has been claimed by the Pittsburgh Pirates via waivers. Overton was designated for assignment on Friday. He has been optioned to Indianapolis. To make room on the 40-man roster, Duane Underwood Jr has been placed on the 60-day injured list, which ends his season.
Overton debuted in the majors this season, pitching four times and throwing 6.2 scoreless innings, with four hits, two walks and four strikeouts. He has a 2.03 ERA in 57.2 innings at Triple-A this season. He has pitched mostly in relief in the minors and missed some time due to injuries, throwing a total of 185 innings since being drafted in 2014. He turned 28 years old back in July.
