The Pirates released Gregory Polanco on Saturday. Cole Tucker has been recalled in his place. This is not surprising considering that Polanco had a large option for 2022 that no team wanted just a week ago, so he wasn’t going to return to Pittsburgh. Instead of taking up a roster spot, Tucker now gets a shot over the last 33 games.

Sam Howard has also returned from the injured list, while Dillon Peters goes on the 10-day IL with a lower back strain. Howard hasn’t pitched since July 9th when he allowed five runs while facing six batters. He had a 4.30 ERA going into that game, which ballooned to 5.76.

Michael Chavis left this game early with an elbow injury. He was replaced by Cole Tucker in the lineup and in right field.
