Pirates Designate Ka’ai Tom for Assignment

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Monday afternoon that outfielder Ka’ai Tom has been activated from the 10-day injured list and he has been designated for assignment. He was doing rehab work in Indianapolis last week. Tom, who was a Rule 5 pick this year, joined the Pirates back on April 21st when he was picked up off of waivers from the Oakland A’s. He hit .063/.063/.063 in 16 plate appearances over nine games with the A’s, then hit .152/.308/.261 in 39 games with the Pirates. He last played with the Pirates on July 1st and has been out with a lower back strain. Tom went 5-for-18 with a double and a homer in five rehab games with Indianapolis.
