Pirates Game Discussion: Pirates vs Phillies, 7:05 PM; Keller Returns to Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates (38-64) are at home for a three-game series, taking on the Philadelphia Phillies (51-51) in game one of the series tonight at 7:05 PM. The Pirates are sending out Wil Crowe for his 15th start. He has a 5.89 ERA in 65.2 innings, with 62 strikeouts and a 1.57 WHIP. The Phillies are countering with right-handed pitcher Vince Velasquez, who is making his 17th start. He has a 5.54 ERA in 79.2 innings, with 84 strikeouts and a 1.43 WHIP.

Prior to the game, the Pirates recalled Mitch Keller from Indianapolis. He was scheduled to start today. With the bullpen being two players short, he might be used in long relief, or we could see him start on Sunday in the current TBD slot. Keller had a 3.21 ERA, a 13:39 BB/SO ratio and a 1.43 WHIP in 28 innings at Indianapolis.

Umpire Scorecard from yesterday. This is a below average performance, with one called that missed by a literal mile (5,280 feet!). I wish it was one of the worst calls so I knew when it happened and could go back and see a pitch that would have went behind the head of Manute Bol get called a strike.
