Both FCL Pirates’ games were cancelled, obviously for non-weather reasons.  Tomorrow’s game between the Gold and Black teams was also cancelled this afternoon, so something out of the ordinary evidently has occurred.

Game Recap:

Greensboro (42-27) frittered away all or most of a couple big leads, but held on to beat Greenville, 12-10.  The Grasshoppers took a 5-2 lead in the top of the sixth and had Santiago Florez pitching well through five innings, but Florez left with two out in the sixth, two runs in and a runner on base.  Bear Bellomy let that runner score to tie the game.  Greensboro got the lead back in the top of the seventh on a grand slam by Matt Fraizer, his 17th home run of the year.  Fraizer finished with four hits and a walk, and five RBIs.  A two-run bomb by Blake Sabol in the eighth, his third for Greensboro, made it 11-5, but Bellomy gave up four runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 11-9.  Greensboro got another run in the top of the ninth, then Will Kobos walked four of the first five batters in the bottom of the inning.  Austin Roberts got the last two outs for the save.  Grant Koch had two walks and his sixth homer of the year, and scored three times.

Game Recap:

Bradenton (42-26) suffered a major, ninth-inning bullpen meltdown and lost to St. Lucie in ten innings, 6-5.  Domingo Gonzalez had a strong start, allowing just an unearned run over six innings.  Eddy Yean sailed through two more innings and the Marauders took a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but the first seven batters in the inning reached base, tying the score and leaving the bases loaded.  Enmanuel Mejia, who let three of Yean’s runners score, managed to get three outs without another runs scoring.  The Marauders loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the tenth, but Ernny Ordonez and Jase Bowen each fanned on three pitches, and Daniel Rivero flied out.  Bowen is 5-for-55 in July, with two extra-base hits and 25 strikeouts.  St. Lucie got a one-out single in the bottom half to score the free runner.  Bradenton had 15 hits, with Alexander Mojica going 5-for-5, all singles, raising his average from .186 to .211.  Maikol Escotto had two hits, including his fourth home run.
