New Prospect Rankings from Keith Law and Fangraphs

Both Fangraphs and Keith Law at The Athletic, posted updated prospect lists in the last two days. Here’s a quick look at both of the updates.

The update from Law is a bit smaller, as he re-ranks the top 50 prospects in baseball. The Pittsburgh Pirates have two players on the new list, giving them a new top prospect in the system.  First round pick Henry Davis is the 15th ranked prospect now for Law and he heads the Pirates. The second player from the Pirates on the list is Quinn Priester, their first round pick in 2019. He ranks 48th.

Fangraphs also did a re-rank of the top prospects in the game, but they expanded it to include teams as well. They are higher than anyone else on the Pirates farm system and it shows with their new top 100 ranking, which has six Pirates in the top 100 and three more just outside of that group. Davis is also the top new prospect for them, though he ranks 35th overall in baseball, just two spots ahead of Priester on their list. They have Roansy Contreras all the way up at #59 in the game, ahead of Liover Peguero, Michael Yajure and Oneil Cruz, who round out the group of Pirates in the top 100. Tahnaj Thomas, Travis Swaggerty and Nick Gonzales just missed the top 100. Third round pickBubba Chandler now ranks tenth in the system and second round pick Anthony Solometo ranks 16th.
