The Pittsburgh Pirates (34-56) are at home to take on the New York Mets (47-40) for three games, starting tonight at 7:05 PM with the first game out of the All-Star break. The Pirates will send out Chad Kuhl, who will be making his 12th start. He has a 4.73 ERA ERA in 51.1 IP, with 42 strikeouts and a 1.36 WHIP. The Mets are countering with right-hander Marcus Stroman, who will be making his 19th start. He has a 2.75 ERA in 98.1 innings, with 83 strikeouts and a 1.12 WHIP.
Prior to the game, the Pirates announced that Phillip Evans has been activated from the injured list and Cole Tucker has been optioned to Indianapolis. Earlier this week they announced that Sam Howard was placed on the injured list, but they didn’t replace him on the 26-man roster until tonight when Nick Mears was recalled from Indianapolis. Mears has been up with the Pirates twice already, but he has not appeared in a game this season.
This game is definitely weather permitting, as there is a storm rolling in (85% chance) according to the radar that could take up to two hours to pass.
