Prospect Watch: Garcia, Ashcraft, MacGregor and Oviedo with the Wednesday Starts

Game Recap:  Luis Oviedo made his third rehab start on Wednesday night and this one went much better than the other two games. After allowed six runs over 3.2 innings in the first two games, he tossed three shutout innings on one hit, two walks and two strikeouts. He threw 42 pitches tonight, with 26 going for strikes. James Marvel went 4.1 innings in relief, giving up two runs on four hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Joe Jacques followed with one run over 1.1 innings. Shea Spitzbarth was out next with 1.1 shutout innings. Matt Eckelman threw a scoreless 11th, then gave up three runs (two earned) in the 12th. In the bottom of the 12th, Indianapolis started with three straight singles to make it a 6-5 game. With the tying run on second and winning run on first, the next three batters all made outs, handing the Indians the loss, dropping them to 30-30 on the season.

Anthony Alford and Dee Strange-Gordon each went 2-for-6 with a run scored and an RBI. Alford hit his seventh home run. Strange-Gordon had a double and a stolen base. Chris Sharpe had two hits and a run scored.

MiLB added ten games to the end of the Triple-A schedule, called a “Final Stretch” tournament, so the season at this level will last longer than the other full seasons levels.

Game Recap: Travis MacGregor had a solid start on Wednesday and the bullpen was strong, in the 10-3 win over Binghamton. MacGregor allowed two runs over five innings, with three hits, two walks and five strikeouts. He also plunked two batters. He now has a 4.44 ERA in 46.2 innings, with 49 strikeouts. Cam Alldred followed with one unearned run in two innings, then Shea Murray and Will Gardner each retired the side in order to finish out the victory.

Mason Martin had the big hit on offense, a two-run homer in the seventh inning, his 17th home run of the season. He also had an RBI single. Calvin Mitchell hit a solo homer, his tenth of the season. Ji-Hwan Bae reached on a single and a hit-by-pitch, scored two runs and stole his ninth base. While the top prospects did their part, the best night belonged to Josh Bissonette, who went 3-for-5 with a run scored. He hit a two-run single in the second inning and a two-run double in the eighth inning.

Game Recap: Braxton Ashcraft allowed two runs over four innings of work on Wednesday night. He gave up three hits and three walks, while striking out two batters. He has a 4.67 ERA this season in 34.2 innings, with 35 strikeouts. Grant Ford followed with a run on five hits in three innings. He had no walks and five strikeouts. Oliver Garcia lowered his ERA to 2.00 in two scoreless innings, while picking up his seventh save.

The Grasshoppers have been running a lot this year and they put up some impressive stolen base numbers in this game, going 5-for-5 in steals. Liover Peguero hit his second triple and stole his 12th base. Jared Triolo hit his 12th double and stole his 13th base. Matt Gorski also stole his 13th base. Lolo Sanchez reached twice on a single and a HBP. He stole two bases, giving him 18 steals on the year. Nick Gonzales continued to struggle with an 0-for-5 night and four strikeouts. He is on a 7-for-48 streak, with 21 strikeouts in his last 13 games.

Game Recap:  Nick Garcia allowed just one hit and one walk over five innings of work, while striking out six batters. He gave up two runs on a fourth inning home run. He also hit two batters. Garcia has a 3.26 ERA in 38.2 innings, with 44 strikeouts. Oliver Mateo was out next and he had a wild outing, with no hits or runs over 1.2 innings, walking four batters and picking up four strikeouts. Sergio Umana finished out the game with 2.1 scoreless innings, facing the minimum seven batters to close out the 3-2 win.

The Marauders had eight hits in the game and four of them were doubles. Two were RBI doubles and the third and final run scored on an Endy Rodriguez sacrifice fly. Rodriguez collected his 12th double and also drew a walk. Dariel Lopez hit his 11th double. Eli Wilson picked up his fifth double. He also had a single and a walk. He currently has a 1.001 OPS. Jack Herman hit his first double since joining Bradenton. The Marauders had four walks in the game, two by Maikol Escotto, who also scored a run. Bradenton currently has a 40-21 record.
