The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Tuesday afternoon that both Gregory Polanco and Phillip Evans were placed on the injured list. In their place, the Pirates have recalled infielders Cole Tucker and Rodolfo Castro. Polanco is on the 10-day list, while Evans goes on the 7-day concussion list.
If both players miss the minimum time, then they would be return after the Pirates come back from the All-Star break. After Sunday’s game against the New York Mets, the Pirates have the next four days off. Polanco, who is hitting .199/.278/.362 this season, hasn’t started since June 29th, though he has pinch-hit four times in the last week. Evans is hitting .208/.310/.311 in 57 games this year.
Both Tucker and Castro has spent some time in the majors already this season. Tucker comes up from Indianapolis, where he was hitting .214/.333/.357 in 38 games. He went 2-for-15 with a walk in eight games for the Pirates. Castro was in Altoona, where he was hitting .306/.349/.549 in 49 games. He went 0-for-3 in his lone game with the Pirates.
