The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled right-handed pitcher Cody Ponce prior to Monday’s game in Colorado. To make room on the active roster, right-handed pitcher Max Kranick was optioned to Indianapolis.
It’s clear that this move was already planned out before yesterday’s performance because you can’t get any better than the effort Kranick gave yesterday in his five perfect innings during his big league debut. It’s reminiscent of Nick Kingham being sent down after his incredible debut game, which was also a planned out move ahead of time, regardless of his performance. Ponce last pitched on June 23rd, allowing four runs over five innings in his start for Indianapolis. He pitched once for the Pirates this year (May 25th) and also allowed four runs over five innings in that game.
