The 30-year-old Miller had plenty of success early in his career, but he hasn’t pitched well since 2015, when he somehow piled up 17 losses, despite a 3.02 ERA. His ERA went up to 6.15 the next season in full-time work, then he was limited to nine starts in 2017-18. Miller struggled badly in 2019 with the Texas Rangers, then he sat out the 2020 season, before returning this year with the Chicago Cubs, where he allowed seven runs in two innings over three appearances. Right now he looks to be no more than depth at Triple-A because he’s so far removed from any big league success.
