The Pittsburgh Pirates have promoted 22-year-old left-handed pitcher Omar Cruz from High-A Greensboro to Double-A Altoona on Wednesday according to the MiLB transactions page. He had a 3.45 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 28.2 innings over seven starts with Greensboro.
The Pirates acquired Cruz as one of five players they received in the Joe Musgrove trade made this January. Prior to this season, his experience was limited to 98.1 innings over two seasons, topping out at Low-A ball in 2019. He gave up four runs and five walks over two innings in his season debut this year, then held batting to a .168 average over his final six starts.
