The Pittsburgh Pirates made a few moves in the minors leagues on Wednesday/Thursday. The biggest news is that Altoona second baseman Ji-Hwan Bae was placed on the 7-day injured list. He was in a collision on Tuesday with outfielder Cal Mitchell and injured his knee. The injury was bad timing for Bae, who hit just .200 in May, but he is batting .478 in June. He’s ranked as the ninth best prospect in the system. The Pirates have now seen injuries to eight of their top 12 prospects this season.
On Thursday, infielder Jesus Valdez was promoted to Altoona to fill in for Bae. Valdez was batting .250/.327/.545 in 13 games at the time of the promotion. Catcher Kyle Wilkie was added to the Greensboro roster.
In Bradenton, the Marauders got some bad news with pitchers, as both Alex Aquino and Enmanuel De Los Santos were placed on the 60-day injured list, plus Wandi Montout was placed on the 7-day injured list. We will try to get updates on their injury situations. No one has been added to the pitching staff yet, but they already have 16 pitchers available, so there might not be any additions. Outfielder Jake Snider was added from Pirate City and he is in Wednesday’s lineup for his season debut.
