Pirates Activate Phillip Evans and Mitch Keller

The Pittsburgh Pirates activated utility man Phillip Evans and pitcher Mitch Keller prior to Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Evans has been out since May 13th with a hamstring strain. Keller was placed on the Covid-19 injured list on Sunday as a precaution, but he has been cleared to play. He is scheduled to pitch on Thursday. To make room on the active roster, Wilmer Difo has been designated for assignment and Austin Davis has been optioned to Indianapolis.

Evans hit .216/.326/.351 in 32 games before the injury. He put up a 1.115 OPS in 14 plate appearances in Triple-A on rehab.

Difo hit .244/.287/.366 in 44 games with the Pirates, while seeing playing time at five different positions. He batted .296/.391/.519 in 28 pinch-hitting appearances.

Davis was just activated off of the 60-day injured list over the weekend. He pitched one game and retired all three batters he faced.
