The Pittsburgh Pirates activated third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes off of the 60-day injured list prior to Thursday’s home game against the Miami Marlins. Hayes has been out since the second game of the regular season with a wrist injury. He batted .250/.308/.583 in seven rehab games for Indianapolis.
To make room on the active roster, Wil Crowe has been optioned to Indianapolis. He had a 7.26 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP in seven starts and one relief outing with the Pirates. In 31 innings, he had a 17:28 BB/SO ratio.
A spot on the 40-man roster has been temporarily opened by JT Brubaker returning from the bereavement list. Due to the covid intake process, he won’t return immediately, but that move opens up a roster spot to add Hayes back to the 40-man roster. Another move will eventually be made to free up a roster spot.
