The Pittsburgh Pirates (20-31) are at home for three games this weekend against the Colorado Rockies (19-34), wrapping up the series on Sunday afternoon. Chase De Jong will be on the mound for the Pirates, making his season debut in the majors. He had a 3.60 ERA in 20 innings, with 28 strikeouts and a 1.20 WHIP for Indianapolis this season. The Rockies are countering with lefty Kyle Freeland, who has made one start this year, allowing one run in four innings. He made two starts in Triple-A and gave up two runs over ten innings.
To make room on the 40-man roster for De Jong, the Pirates designated infielder Ildemaro Vargas for assignment.
