The Pittsburgh Pirates/Altoona Curve gave an update on right-handed pitcher Cody Bolton after earlier in the day announcing that he has been placed on Altoona’s 60-day injured list. Bolton had surgery on his right knee, which he injured just before Opening Day during workouts. According to the team, he can return to full baseball activities in 4-6 months.

The initial hope from the Pirates was that Bolton would be back at some point during the second half of the season. It wasn’t believed to be season ending, but he was going to miss significant time. This is a bit longer than originally thought. With the schedule shortened to 120 games this year, even under the best case scenario, he would be returning as the season is ending (September 19th). That could open him up to playing fall ball possibly, but that’s still under the best case scenario. That’s a tough blow for one of the best pitching prospects in the system.
