The Pirates will be sending out Mitch Keller for his fifth start. He has a 7.16 ERA in 16.1 innings, with 17 strikeouts and a 1.78 WHIP. The Royals will counter with left-handed pitcher Mike Minor, who has a 4.64 ERA in 21.1 innings, with 21 strikeouts and a 1.22 WHIP.
Dustin Fowler cleared waivers and he was assigned to the alternate training site.
The Pirates gave an update to the local media on Ke’Bryan Hayes today:
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said that Ke'Bryan Hayes was re-examined last Friday and it was "positive news." No new findings. Right now he's stretching with the team and assessing if he can field and catch balls.
