Pirates DFA Dustin Fowler, Add Todd Frazier to Roster; Chad Kuhl Placed on Injured List

The Pittsburgh Pirates designated outfielder Dustin Fowler for assignment on Thursday morning and added infielder Todd Frazier to the active roster, taking Fowler’s spot on the 40-man roster. They also announced that Chad Kuhl has been placed on the injured list with shoulder discomfort and Geoff Hartlieb has been added to the roster in his place.

Fowler is the second center fielder to be DFA’d in the last two days, with Anthony Alford being DFA’d yesterday. The Pirates also picked up Ka’ai Tom, who will join the team soon. He was selected off waivers yesterday.

Fowler hit .171/.239/.195 in 18 games this season.

Kuhl last pitched on April 18th, allowing three runs over five innings. He has a 6.32 ERA and 1.79 WHIP in 15.2 innings this season, with a league leading 16 walks.

Hartlieb and Frazier have been at the alternate training site since the beginning of the season.
