The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded right-handed pitcher Edgar Santana to the Atlanta Braves for cash considerations. Santana was designated for assignment on Monday when the Pirates acquired right-handed pitcher Kyle Keller from the Los Angeles Angels for cash considerations.
The 29-year-old Santana missed the 2019 season due to Tommy John surgery and the 2020 season due to a season-long suspension. He pitched winter ball in the Dominican this past off-season and allowed two runs over 5.2 innings in six outings. This spring he gave up eight runs in 6.2 innings.
