The Pittsburgh Pirates trimmed their active Spring Training roster to 40 players before Wednesday’s game. Cole Tucker, Sean Poppen and Miguel Yajure were optioned, while Will Craig, Joe Hudson, Troy Stokes Jr. and Andrew Susac were all reassigned to minor league camp. The Pirates now have 30 players from the 40-man roster still in camp, along with ten non-roster invites.
Tucker batted .174 over 23 at-bats and eight games this spring, while missing a week with a hand injury.
Craig hit .217 in 23 at-bats over 16 games, posting a .681 OPS.
Stokes hit .222/.250/.481 in 27 at-bats over 13 games.
Hudson went 4-for-9 at the plate, while Susac went 1-for-9.
Yajure gave up three runs over six innings in his four appearances. He struck out seven batters. Poppen also had a 4.50 ERA, allowing four runs in eight innings over six appearances.
Opening Day is a week from tomorrow.
