Pirates Announce List of 26 Spring Training Non-Roster Invites

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced their list of non-roster invites to Spring Training on Tuesday afternoon. The list includes 26 players, featuring many of the top prospects in the system who weren’t already on the 40-man roster.

We already knew a handful of these names, as Jandel Gustave, Clay Holmes, Wilmer Difo, Chase De Jong, Joe Hudson, Andrew Susac and Troy Stokes Jr all had previously been invited to Spring Training as non-roster players.

There are some big prospect names added to the list among the other 19 players, including Cody Bolton, Ji-Hwan Bae, Nick Gonzales, Liover Peguero, Travis Swaggerty, Mason Martin, Cal Mitchell and Quinn Priester.

Canaan Smith-Njigba was acquired in the New York Yankees trade for Jameson Taillon.

James Marvel and Kevin Kramer were both injured last year, so it’s good to see their names on the list.

Will Craig made his debut last year in the majors, then was dropped from the 40-man roster, so he was an obvious invite.

Braeden Ogle is among the top left-handed pitching prospects in the system. Blake Weiman is also a lefty arm out of the bullpen.

Yerry De Los Santos is a real sleeper bullpen prospect, who pitched great this winter in the Dominican.

Shea Spitzbarth was picked up in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 draft.

Arden Pabst, Christian Kelley and Jason Delay round out the catching group, which will be seven deep going into Spring Training.
