Troy Stokes Sent Outright to Indianapolis; Receives Spring Training Invite

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Friday afternoon that outfielder Troy Stokes has cleared waivers and he’s been sent outright to Indianapolis. They also announced that he has received a non-roster invite to Spring Training.

Stokes, who turns 25 years old on Wednesday, was designated for assignment on Sunday when the Pirates needed a roster space after the Jameson Taillon trade. Stokes missed the 2020 season due to hamate surgery. In 2019, he spent the season in Triple-A for the Milwaukee Brewers, where he hit .233/.341/.385 in the high offense Pacific Coast League. He had nine homers and 14 stolen bases. The Detroit Tigers claimed him on waivers after the 2019 season, then the Pirates picked him up off of waivers from the Tigers back on January 12th.
