Pirates Hire Christian Marrero as Assistant Hitting Coach

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Friday afternoon that they have hired Christian Marrero as their Assistant Hitting Coach. He takes over for Mike Rabelo, who held that same job during the 2020 season. Rabelo remains in the system, transferring over to a new role as the Major League Field Coordinator.

Marrero has been serving as a minor league hitting coach for the Philadelphia Phillies during the last three seasons. Before that he spent 12 years playing minor league baseball, retiring after the 2017 season. He was briefly a member of the Pirates organization in 2012, seeing time with Indianapolis and Altoona, after joining the Pirates system in late July that same year. Rick Eckstein remains as the hitting coach for the Pirates.
