Difo is entering his age 29 season, and has a career .657 OPS in over 1,000 plate appearances. He’s played all over the field, grading positively at second base and shortstop. In his best year, he was barely above replacement level, looking like a backup infielder. My guess is that this is the role he will play, either out of Triple-A or as an MLB backup. If he’s an MLB backup, I think that will mean Kevin Newman is at second base. In either case, I’d be surprised if this is more than a minor league deal.
UPDATE: As speculated, this is a minor league deal.
