Winter Leagues: Bligh Madris Added to Australian League Roster; Polanco Homers Again

In the Dominican on Wednesday night, Gregory Polanco went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. He played right field for the first time since his first game nearly two weeks ago. On Friday night, he was the DH and hit a solo homer, going 1-for-3 with two strikeouts. In nine games this winter, he is hitting .118/.189/.294 in 37 plate appearances.

In Mexico on Wednesday, Fabricio Macias went 1-for-3 with his sixth double and a walk, though he also had two strikeouts.

In Colombia on Thursday, Santiago Florez made his second appearance and he tossed a scoreless inning on one walk and one strikeout. In his debut he threw a shutout frame on one hit, one walk and one strikeout.

The league in Venezuela just started, but there isn’t a single Pirates player in the league.

On Friday, the Brisbane Bandits of the Australian Baseball League announced that they have signed outfielder Bligh Madris. The 24-year-old, who was a ninth round pick in 2017, played for the Altoona Curve in 2019, where he hit .260/.324/.379 in 132 games as the team’s everyday right fielder. He was not part of the 60-man roster in 2020. The Pirates already had Robbie Glendinning, Beau Sulser, Brandan Bidois and Solomon Maguire in the league this winter. The season begins later this month.
