Winter Leagues: Gregory Polanco Hits a Walk-Off Homer

In the Dominican on Monday, Gregory Polanco went 0-for-2 with two walks and an RBI. On Tuesday, he started the game by going 0-for-4, but it was how he finished the game that made news. Polanco hit a walk-off homer in the tenth inning for the 3-2 victory. It was his first homer of the winter. He is now hitting .111/.200/.222 in seven games.

The Gigantes del Cibao played on Monday after ten straight days off following multiple positive COVID results. Their weekly roster didn’t include Oneil Cruz, but they did have Edgar Santana and Yerry De Los Santos on the active roster. Neither pitcher got into Monday’s game. There was no reason given for Cruz’s absence. Both pitchers saw action on Tuesday night. De Los Santos retired all four batters he faced, two on strikeouts. He now has five strikeouts in 2.1 perfect innings. Santana allowed one run on two hits and a walk in one inning. In his only other appearances, he recorded two outs, while allowing two hits (no runs).

As a side note, both Socrates Brito and Pablo Reyes had hitless days on Monday. Brito picked up a hit on Tuesday, but Reyes didn’t. The two free agents are now batting .048 (Reyes) and .083 this winter.
